Hi, I'm Sherry
I’ve had an amazing life so far. Like all of us I’ve experienced love, heartbreak, joy, and sorrow but thankfully I’ve never lost sight of my purpose. I’ve had exciting and rewarding careers, serving in the United States Air Force, working in law enforcement, advocating for families as a foster care specialist, teaching undergraduate psychology courses at both the junior college and university levels, and finally working in private practice as a psychotherapist. As I continue this work in my senior years, I see the demand for mental health care only rises.
Even with the increase in Telehealth Services mental health care needs are going unmet and my desire is greater than ever to expand my work beyond the therapy room to include consulting with families and colleagues, writing, and educating to reach more people who are struggling to attain health and happiness. Our physical and mental health are absolutes if we wish to live a happy and healthy life. The problem is sometimes our life journey includes tragedy and trauma, and finding the help to recover isn’t always easy.
While the lack of health insurance impedes access to healthcare, often having health insurance can disrupt treatment especially in residential care for eating disorders. I want to play a role in avoiding these barriers to care by forming foundations that help to increase the likelihood of people getting the care they need regardless of insurance or socioeconomic status.
